Something special is rolling down the Mother Road in Oklahoma. A brand-new illustrated Route 66 poker run map is coming to life, designed as a cruising road trip that celebrates the sights, stories, and soul of America’s most iconic highway. Think classic cars, hand-drawn landmarks, Native American heritage, roadside charm, and that unmistakable Route 66 feeling that makes you want to slow down, see the sites and enjoy every mile.
The map and travel guidelines are currently being created to showcase a nostalgic drive across Oklahoma, with planned cruise stops in Route 66 communities that are home to a Reid Newspapers publication. Each stop highlights towns that live and breathe the Mother Road—places where Route 66 isn’t just history, it’s part of everyday life. Together, these communities form the largest concentration of newspapers located directly on Route 66 anywhere in the nation, making Reid Newspapers uniquely tied to the past, present, and future of the highway.
This Route 66 cruise isn’t about rushing from point A to point B. It’s about celebrating local stories, meeting the people who keep Route 66 alive, and honoring the towns that have grown up along its pavement. From neon signs and murals to hometown newspapers and historic downtowns, every stop adds another chapter to the Route 66 story.
And like every great road trip, it all leads to one unforgettable destination. The journey will culminate in Weatherford, Oklahoma, during the Heartland Cruise on June 19 and 20, 2026. As Route 66 approaches its centennial, Weatherford will welcome cruisers, communities, and visitors for a celebration filled with classic cars, cruising, camaraderie, and pure Mother Road energy.
The map is taking shape, the route is coming together, and Oklahoma’s stretch of Route 66 is ready for its moment in the spotlight.
And remember like the famous poker runs, over $5,000 cash and prizes will be awarded for the best poker hands gathered from the seven stops!
